Introduction
This week our focus shifted towards research and refining our concept. We concentrated on learning more about our users, developing our brand identity, and receiving valuable feedback from our advisor that helped us see our project direction more clearly.
Team Charter Revision
We also revisited our team charter, as some of our initial agreements weren’t specific enough.
Roles: We refined responsibilities based on each member’s proficiency to ensure efficiency and accountability.
Success Criteria: Expectations were elaborated in more detail, giving us measurable outcomes to track progress.
Conflict Management: The team agreed that Pat will mediate conflicts or difficult situations.
By reviewing the charter again, we ensured that everyone is aligned and comfortable with these agreements.
Research Progress
We started our user research by conducting primary research through surveys, along with secondary research using articles, reports, and studies. Since our target group is very niche (electrical students and neurodivergent learners in trades), it was challenging to gather enough survey responses. Still, the insights we did collect helped us understand which problems we can address.
At the same time, we worked on developing our logo and branding, making sure it connects more closely with our project’s purpose and target users.
Blockers
The main blocker this week was the difficulty of reaching our specific user group for survey responses. This limited the amount of data we could gather, but it also highlighted the importance of carefully scoping down and prioritizing our research focus.
Advisor Meeting
We had our first meeting with our advisor, Shifra Day, which was a turning point for our project. She helped us narrow down our scope and identify key problems more clearly. From the discussion, we also gained additional resources, new ideas on where to focus our research, and clarity on the challenges faced by our users. A special thank-you to Shifra for sharing the textbook reference and her input on electrical vocabulary, both of which are extremely useful for our work.
Milestone
Completing our first advisor meeting was a big milestone. It gave us not only clearer direction but also motivation to refine our approach. We also made progress in shaping our branding to better align with the project vision.
What’s Next?
For our next meeting on October 4 at 12 PM with Shifra, we plan to present:
Findings from our user research
The first draft of our design
A prioritized list of features for our MVP
Updates on our logo and branding
Additionally, we have started thinking about our marketing messages—how to position ourselves to attract our target users and spread awareness about our project.
