Introduction

This week focused on gathering the last bits of the User Survey and analyzed the results in the User Research Findings. The Designers also began creating the Low Fidelity wireframes to visualize the website and its features. We also split our target market into 3 different segments to create marketing messages for each segment.  Lastly, we showcased our User Research and Wireframes to our advisor to gather feedback and advice.

User Research

We gather information about our target market by doing a user survey and conducting secondary research.

  • We identified that our target market is neurodiverse and have difficulty in learning within classroom-based learning.

  • They struggle connecting job site training with the theory behind the academic side of Electrical Apprenticeship.

  • Manuals and Instructions were filled with jargon/terminologies that are assumed within the classroom.

Gathering all this data allowed us to build features that will address their pain points and keep the retention alive.

Wireframing

A team of designers consisting of Mai, Pat, and Kayla, designed their own version of low fidelity wireframes that consisted of the main features:

  • Document Simplification: enables users to upload the CODE Book and simplify complex concepts within chapters.

  • Accessibility Features: adjustable text size, line spacing, and focus modes.

  • Term Dictionary for Jargon: can click a term and shows a dialogue of similar terms.

  • Printable Documents: print simplifications and notes made within the website.

  • Visuals like Mindmaps and Diagrams: create detailed mindmaps and diagrams to help with learning and understanding.

The Design team put a lot of effort and time into creating designs and features that had friendly UI of users who aren’t so tech-savvy. They also ensured that these features would become useful tools for journeymen.

Marketing Message

Our team was split into 3 groups that tackled 3 segments within our niche.

  • Upcoming Students

  • Current Students

  • Returning Students

Each group conducted a strategic messaging map by making a company description, a bipolarate, analyzing each segment, and identifying our key messaging.

Blockers

The main blockers for this week were waiting on the user survey. We needed a minimum of 8 participants and as a company targeting a niche, it posed an issue that delayed our User Research Summary despite the extra time provided.

Additionally, waiting for survey participants prevented our Design Team and Product Owners from finalizing the features. The key features relied on the responses from the user survey so the team was subjected to wait until then

Advisor Meeting

On our second meeting with our advisor Shifra, we showed her our User Summary Findings, Design drafts, and Logo and Branding.

She provided us with valuable feedback, mainly about the features and logo. This meeting paved our next steps into polishing the drafts, designing features that would prove use to users without difficulty. Shifra also provided us with her concern about copyright issues which served as our new blocker of the week. The team decided to speak to instructors for advice during instructor meetings.

Milestone

This week has been very productive for the team. A lot of milestones were accomplished all thanks to the hard work and dedication of the team.

The team has been doubting whether we were on track or not last week but now that we moved past those blockers, we were able to put ourselves to work. As a result, we were able to go ahead and move on to the next sprint.

What’s Next?

The Product Owners will delegate tasks across the team to solve blockers from this week. We also aim to create Mid Fidelity wireframes with one of the 3 low fidelity drafts. We would prototype it and test it.

The Dev team is also working hard on researching APIs and Sandboxing, practicing implementations to ensure the development process will be seamless and efficient.

For our next meeting on October 11 at 7 PM with Shifra, we plan to present:

  • Prototyped Features

  • Progress report on CODE Book Copyright issue

  • Marketing Messaging
