Introduction
This week, the team focused on getting the hi-fi for the MVP screens finished and ready for user testing. We have also begun drafting our storyboard for next week's visual story. Lastly we have begun prototyping a static version of our app. Key efforts include meeting with Wim, looking over the screens and matching the design to be consistent, and a user test with Shifra.
Hi-Fi Designs The team overlooked the Hi-Fi designs for MVP of our app’s screen. We overlooked the fonts, colours, and layout of the hi-fi screens and made adjustments accordingly.
Editing the colours of the cards to be a lighter shade to match with the faces on the card.
Changed the font from Space Grotesk to Lexend for our cards.
Modified the screen layout to be more inline with pdf.js for the document screens.
Reorganized the edit function to be on top rather than with the simplification options.
Meeting with Wim
On Friday, our team held a meeting with Wim to go over our logo, style guide, and Hi-fi wireframes. We first talked with Wim about our logo design, and he really likes the design of it. We explained our process and he told us that he understood what it meant, and liked that it represents an omega and an eye. Next he went over our style guide. He told us to make sure that we had tested the app with multiple fonts, as he wasn’t sure if the fonts we were using were appropriate for our app. He also commented on the colours, with him not being sure on the colours, and having us user test to determine the colour palette for the app. Finally, he looked over our Hi-Fi wireframes. He commented on giving multiple variations on the login screen, and also making the mind map and simplified version of the app be interactive for individuals when studying. He commented that the mind map should be interactive as it is important for review purposes. Lastly he recommended a quiz option for review purposes, as it helps users retain their knowledge better through testing them.
Advisor Meeting
On Saturday, we conducted a user test with our advisor Shifra through a call over our MVP screens. We initially ran into technical difficulties when Shifra was unable to share her screen to us on the call, but we managed to find a workaround for the user testing. We had Shifra attempt 8 tasks to see how she would be able to figure out how to navigate through our app.
Shifra began by exploring the Got It app to understand its features and quickly located the main button to start studying. She found navigating the built-in textbooks straightforward and was able to access the mind map feature easily, though she noted that the content within the mind map wasn’t always accurate or fully clear. When given the choice of what to generate, Shifra preferred using the simplification tab, finding it both intuitive and useful. In testing the split-screen layout, she initially had difficulty locating the split-screen icon and suggested making it more noticeable, with tool tips added for guidance. Although the prototype didn’t support text highlighting, she understood how the function would work and found the concept clear. Navigating to the outline panel took her a moment, but once she found it, she understood how to use it effectively. Shifra also found saving and printing to be easy and had no issues editing the title of a card, noting that this feature was simple to use.
Overall, our advisor found it simple to use the app, and while there was difficulty due to the Figma screen being smaller, she overall found it intuitive to use.
Blockers
We didn’t have any major blockers this week. The main roadblock was the hi-fi wireframes, where we ideated on what to improve, and what to cut. We spent a few hours on the wireframes and improved our design's cohesion by the end of it.
What’s next
Next week, we will begin finalizing our storyboard draft to be presented on Friday. We will also start our user testings to see what the overall response is from electricians and technologically illiterate people. Finally, next week our dev team will begin coding out the static version of our app.
